Airlines The island of Guadeloupe is the first destination for most visitors to Marie-Galante. International carriers include Air France and Air Canada. Most United States travelers begin by flying to Miami, St. Martin or Puerto Rico, on American Airlines or other major airline. American Eagle and Air Caraïbes are the primary carriers to Guadeloupe from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Another regional carrier, Air Antilles Express, offers flights between the islands of St. Martin (Grand Case Espérance Airport), Guadeloupe and Martinique. Air France has several flights per week from Miami. If you are using a travel agent for your flights, the following codes may be helpful: Air Caraïbes (TX) Air Antilles Express (3S) American (AA) Air France (AF) Guadeloupe Airport (PTP) Marie-Galante Airport (GBJ) Many international travelers choose to fly from Guadeloupe to Marie-Galante since it is usually more convenient to leave from the airport and the ferry schedules are very limited. However, the ferry services provide an inexpensive way to travel to and from Marie-Galante. Air Caraïbes provides service between Guadeloupe and Marie-Galante. The trip takes about 15 minutes. Allow at least one hour between your arriving flight and your Air Caraïbes flight for baggage handling, customs, ticketing, etc. Air Caraïbes can be ticketed through Continental, US Airways, Delta, Air France, Windward Airways and the Sabre and Amadeus systems three months or less prior to travel. Sea Transportation Ferry boat service between Guadeloupe and Marie-Galante is offered by several island companies. Most boats depart from Pointe-à-Pitre, with several scheduled crossings throughout the day; there is more limited service from St. François. The trip between Pointe-à-Pitre or St. François in Guadeloupe, and the towns of St. Louis or Grand-Bourg, in Marie-Galante takes approximately 45 minutes. More limited service is also available between Marie-Galante and Les Saintes (primarily at the height of the tourist season, mid-December to mid-May.)
